      A Million Dollars for Madison

Since its founding 16 years ago, and supported by your generous contributions, The Madison Foundation has raised, managed and donated nearly a million dollars back into our community. We have had the privilege to support efforts by many of our citizens to make Madison an even better place to live. We have funded many one-time volunteer efforts that have left a lasting benefit. The Foundation has also provided seed money for residents to launch enduring charitable programs that have raised tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars in succeeding years. These local volunteer efforts …

      Who We Are

As Madison’s own community foundation, we provide support to individuals and organizations that serve our community’s social, cultural, environmental, educational and recreational needs. We provide a bridge between those with a commitment to serve our community with their desire and energy, and those with the will and resources to help financially. Since our resources are limited, The Foundation provides seed money for programs that we anticipate will grow into self-sustaining efforts to serve our community and beyond. We encourage individuals and organizations who are inspired to serve …

      Helping Those Who Help

In 1986 the Madison Ambulance Association was founded with the mission of providing quality patient care to residents in and around Madison. They live daily by their motto of “Caring for our Community”. Their team of 33 full- and part-time EMTs and Paramedics respond to more than 1,700 requests for service, and they transport more than 1,300 patients annually. Their training is rigorous and it is only matched by their dedication to their work. But what would happen if they didn’t have the tools to do their job? That’s the situation the Association found itself in regarding a …

      Spreading the Warmth

The Dalton Fund, making it’s first grant since the passing of Peter Dalton, has chosen to donate $5000 to help keep Madison residents warm this winter by supporting the Madison Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N) Fuel Fund. N2N works directly with Madison Youth and Family Services to determine who qualifies for fuel assistance. The Dalton Fund and The Madison Neighbor to Neighbor Fund, are both component funds of the Madison Foundation. Maureen Dalton (center), wife of the late Peter Dalton, is pictured with Laurie Heflin, Founding Director of the Neighbor to Neighbor Fund, and David Allen, retiring …

      Matching Donations to Needs

Students at Madison’s Polson Middle School constructed seven miniature houses to serve as collection boxes for the Neighbor to Neighbor fuel assistance program. The houses could be seen all over the downtown area. The houses collected funds that went directly to Neighbor to Neighbor to help rekindle the fuel assistance program, which had been depleted. The boxes were placed in downtown stores in October 2011. …

    Neighbor to Neighbor

    N2N-150

Amid the deep recession of 2007-2010, Madison social services agencies have been overwhelmed by the increase in requests for help. Residents facing foreclosure may need legal advice they cannot afford. Seniors may need minor home repairs for their safety, or help with household chores. Families need assistance with fuel costs, food, and with personal care items they can’t get at the Food Bank. And each week, about 65 local families rely on the Madison Community Services Food Bank, with hundreds of different households using the Food Bank in the last year. Many of us are asking, “How can I help neighbors right here in Madison?” Now there is an answer! In June 2009, a few concerned residents and Foundation board members established a new “Neighbor-to-Neighbor Fund” within The Madison …
